Location Planning and Recce

This hallway is where we're going to shoot our first scene. We chose this location as there is a lot of room to move around and is shows that we're shooting in a school and therefore reaches the standard of the brief. We're planning to shoot two of the characters bumping into each other and have a small piece of dialogue in the hallway.

We're also going to shoot in this classroom. This is going to be used for when one of the students receives an email. This again shows that they are in school. The risks are higher in this location than they are in the hallway as there is a lot more room to move around and there are a lot less objects which could cause a hazard to people around.

Video Ideas

The following stills represent a progression of what I wanted the final title screen to look like , I knew that i definitely wanted an eye to represent the treatment which is the centre point of the entire show but i didn't want it to be a picture of just an eye , i wanted it to have some sort of scientific theme to it eg: the top picture has binary code in the background which adds to the effect and gives the picture a persona. 

This picture is more of a refined idea of what I was trying to achieve it has static effect applied to it which gives it that hacker-like personality and also the main point the retina scan around the pupil effect which is what grabbed my attention because it clearly states the MUTR:IX treatment or at least hints it to the viewer.

The pictures below are some of the visual ideas the character of jess and her personality as a computer guru. 

This picture is the anonymous email tip the characters receive of the treatment , i wanted the message to be kind of like a telegram very brief and i wanted it to have a sense of fear the characters would get after receiving it because its from an anonymous source and because its very brief and short.

These pictures are some of the stills that are showing the production work and filming of the cut-away footage to go in the opening sequence.  

It was important for me that we film the close ups and wide tracking shots of these test tubes because it is very symbolic of what the show is about ; science experiments. 

Combined with the other footage and edited it gives for a very mysterious Sci-Fi feeling.

This is Jazz's photo board for her little scene in the title sequence. It shows that her character is very into computers and gaming and is easy frustrated. Her style is not shown in the story board.

These are some of the stills that we have of the first day of filming , it was a very focused and simple day of filming , everything had its own pace and the chemistry between group members was good and focused.

The only major mistakes that effected us later on was the fact that we filmed one take of everything , the shots were mostly medium and simple so it didn't give the editor a lot  material to work with but other than that it was a good day of filming.

Rhiannon's Character- Jane Nicholson

This is Jane Nicholson, she is 17 years old and in her second year of Sixth Form. She is studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics. As she spends all her time revising or practicing experiments, she doesn't have much time for other people and therefore doesn't have many friends. As Jane is a Bio-Scientist, she has very strong beliefs about the environment and the views on the world so spends some of her time helping the environment. As well as saving the world in her pastime she also likes to go to museums and sit at home doing work. Jane's general manner is polite but isn't very out-going (probably as she spends all of her time on her own), her sense of humour is very limited as she's very mature for her age and therefore finds people her own age quite irritating and immature.

This is Jess Wylde. A computer loving internet addict. She often enjoys shooting aliens and saving the world with her handful of 'friends' (Online Of Course). She's always on edge and very nervous, probably something to do with the fact she doesn't face much human interaction. She has very high hopes for the future when it comes to technology. Many who have tried to prove her wrong or tried taking her food have yet to return to earth. It takes a while for Jess to get comfortable with people but when she does, be cautious.

Moodboard

I chose these pictures as they all connect to the over view of the topic. For example, I chose to use the eye picture as the project says that the people are being controlled by the government and this picture looks like the eye is being controlled. I added a stereotypical image of a scientist and geek to give an idea of what they're going to be like but change each character to not be like what people imagine them as! I put idea's of different scenes and places that each character is going to be as it again gives an idea of what can be put into the title sequence.

This is Adam Smith , his subjects are Media , Political Sciences and Psychology

His sense of humour is dark but can be normal , naturally he is a very spaced out character

Chad Plays in the college's Football, Basketball and athletics team. he is into fashion, always has to look good and spends an hour on doing he's hair. He's a bit of a player with the girls and doesn't care about other peoples feelings,he  also has an enemy called Adam Smith who always grasses on him to the principle about bullying, smoking out of the smoking area and for not doing his homework.

Jazz's Mood board

I chose a lot of scientist pictures as the shows the main idea of the show.
The 'jock' (Guy in red jacket) is the Non-activist. He is popular and commonly sporty.
The government are running the operation so I included pictures of the white house and American Government badge. Cheerleaders are often also popular. Big 'tech' buildings look 'scientific'. The Mutr1x also had a 'hacker' character, this is shown on the mood board with the green codes and gadgets.

L2 UNIT 40 - MuTr:IX Brief

Channel 4 has commissioned a six-part television drama to be scheduled at the same time as Doctor Who on the BBC. This new drama series will compete for a similar target audience as the BBC’s flagship programme. 

The series finale will conclude with a Christmas Eve special.

It will be a conspiracy thriller set at a sixth form college in Cambridge. Four students individually get tipped off by email / social media messages that students of the college are to receive a government agency experimental treatment originally trialled in 2009 (“Mutation Treatment IX”) which eradicates any sense of protest or activist behaviour in the upcoming generation of the electorate towards the government aim of absolute control. The treatment is received/ingested through the eye, without students’ knowledge or consent.

The four student protagonists are:

1. An activist (hacker, studying political sciences)

2. A non-activist (interests in sport, fashion, a consumer, alpha college social character etc.)

3. A computer expert (designer, programmer, gamer etc.)

4. A budding bio scientist (with interests in human biology)

TASK
In groups, you will produce the opening titles sequence and the opening scene in which one of the four students gets tipped off about the Mu Tr :IX programme.

The titles sequence will contain short scenes of the four main characters with the ‘snatch’ title effect, short action sequences, elements from the series, medical and scientific graphics, typography effects and video footage of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology building next to Long Road.

SCHEDULE
The production work will last four weeks. One week for the planning and filming, with a further two weeks for the editing.
The project DEADLINE will be 4.10 pm Friday 13th December.
